Linux® is a multi-tasking, multi-user operating system that provides maximum stability, power and security for the programs written to run on it. X-Med has been running on Linux since 1995, shortly after the operating system matured. This makes X-Med the first native Linux practice management system in the United States.
 
Linux is more reliable than Windows, which means less downtime for your practice management system.
Linux is more secure than Windows. Hackers prefer to hack Microsoft because of their reputation and high visibility. Hackers respect Linux.
Linux is more powerful than Windows. Given the same computer hardware, Linux outperforms Windows in all operations.

We chose the Linux operating system specifically to minimize customer downtime and the need for ongoing support for system administration and maintenance.

Our leading competitors charge as much as ten times more for software service & support. Worse than that, many of their customers feel that they're getting their money's worth. This means that they make frequent calls for help! X-Med users, on the other hand, do not.
Linux was developed several years ago by a Finnish software engineering student named Linus (pronounced in his native Finnish as Lee-Nus) Torvalds. The name Linux was derived from his name. For the record, in Finnish, it is pronounced 'Lee-noox', and the most common English pronunciation is 'Lih-nux'.

Unlike any other operating system, Linux was written by its own end users, people working for NASA or at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as well as many of the finest programmers in the world; not for commercial gain, but because they themselves intended to use it and needed an operating system that would guarantee maximum stability, power, flexibility, security and accountability.

Since then Linux has become the most widely used operating system on the Internet. It has overtaken Microsoft Windows in many countries in Europe and has been named the official operating system for government computers in Germany, Austria and other countries.
